Take a moment and breathe in that feeling of accomplishment...

That's incredible! You are a powerhouse author and creator, and you're just about ready to send it out into the world...

But is it ready to face the world?

Every piece of writing out there deserves at least a second set of eyes on it, if not more, before it hits the big time—whether it's for an agent or publishing submission, your website, or even if you're self-publishing your work.

That's how I can help you.

My name is Mikael, and I am the founder and Editor in Chief of The Intuitive Editor. I help you maintain your voice while making sure your message is crystal clear to have the impact you most desire to have. Plus, I provide thorough feedback and suggestions to take your writing & stories to the next level.

It would be my absolute pleasure to take your book from "meh" to magnificent.

Words of Praise

“Mikael is an amazing editor. Her work with The Bookish Fox is incredible. She has a sharp editorial eye, a big heart, and a great sense of humor. I trust Mikael so much that I gave her my own book for copyediting. She did a fantastic job catching inconsistencies and grammar errors while making me laugh and feel safe.”

~ Sarah Fox, Founder & CEO of The Bookish Fox

No matter the genre, your book deserves the care and precision of an exceptional edit so it can shine the way your soul intends.

It can be scary to have someone else look through and make suggestions for your book baby. I know exactly what that’s like (the first time I saw my pages bleed red, I cried)…

However, the editing and revision process with me is a lot more fun and I’ll care for your book just as much as you do. Along with edits, feedback, and suggestions to make your language more powerful, I’ll also tell you what I love, what’s working (or not), offer writing advice, and I’ll even pop in some fun GIFs if I feel so inspired so the edited manuscript isn’t so intimidating.

I love this work so much that I hope to make it enjoyable for both me and you. And my goal is to see you and your book shine & succeed!

Your book—your passion project—deserves as much love and care as you put into it,
and my ultimate goal is to continue that love & passion to carefully excavate your story.
I seek to enhance your voice and writing to reveal the story & messages within.

I can see the soul within your creation, so I can feel what it is you meant to say so it can be even clearer and more impactful. Nothing would thrill me more than to help make your book shine the way you sought it to before you ever began putting pen to paper.

You have put in so much work, and I know how much it means to put out a good story that touches people and leaves a mark. I will help to ensure your book does just that.

Books go through many stages before they hit the shelves and often need multiple eyes (and drafts) to bring them to magnificence. I’d be tickled to support you with help you at whatever stage of editing your book needs whether that’s an overall look at your book’s storyline in a developmental edit or an exacting copyedit or final proofread prior to hitting publish or sending to an agent.

Any of the book editing services below can be packaged for a discounted rate or a la carte.
They are listed below in the recommended order.

Book editing services are priced per project based on word count, type of edit,
and the degree of work needed.

Sample edits of $1,000 may be offered for $10.

Below are the starting rates for each type of edit.

Levels of Book Editing

Developmental Edit
$35 / 1,000 words

Where your overall story structure and the arc are combed through to make sure your character development and story arc work together without leaving gaping plot holes or questions unanswered. The focus is on story structure, characterization, and plot development. Themes and big-picture consistencies are looked at. Developmental editing looks at the larger picture of your manuscript to make sure it all flows together seamlessly while communicating your larger message. Comes with an editorial report on the various aspects of your novel with this overarching feedback!

Line Editing
$30 / 1,000 words

Where the choice and order of sentences, phrasing, and words are keenly looked at to improve the flow and readability of your story. Line editing is about refining your text on a line-by-line, and paragraph-by-paragraph, basis. Line edits include clearing out redundancies or overused phrases, offering rewrites to tighten up your language, removing the unnecessary, and amplifying what’s important. Think of it as creative or stylistic editing that preserves and elevates your writing—this is TIE’s specialty!

Copyedit
$23 / 1,000 words

Where your book has gone through structural revisions and needs an overall proof and polish to clarify your writing and message. Any glaring errors like misspellings, grammar, verb tense, and punctuation will be swept up in this in-depth technical clean-up of your book. Light line editing may also be suggested, where sentence structure, consistency, readability, and flow of ideas are examined to present the most impactful language possible. A style guide is included in this service!

Proofread
$13 / 1,000 words

Where your book needs a final set of eyes to catch any remaining errors in punctuation, grammar, spelling, formatting, or typos—to make your manuscript truly shine, so readers’ eyes don’t snag on small mistakes that may frustrate them, diminish the reading process, or make readers question your credibility. The proofread is the final step for your manuscript before publishing!
